Shane Lowry’s Amgen Irish Open victory saw him return to the winners’ circle for the first time since 2022 (BMW PGA Championship). In honor of this Irishman winning his national open, let’s take a look back at when the same Irishman won another open, which is to say THE Open.
A surprise winner bolted ahead of the pack in 2019 at Royal Portrush. Entering the tournament on the heels of four missed cuts, all Irishman Shane Lowry did was beat his nearest competitor (Tommy Fleetwood) by six strokes at the first Open in Northern Ireland in 68 years.
